September 1st

Finally back on my beautifully comfortable bed in my dorm room in the Ravenclaw tower. My roommates are chatting about classes at the moment; I'll join them in a few.

The train ride felt, as it usually does, like leaving home and coming home at the same time. Mum was in tears, as per usual. It's been years and she still hasn't adjusted to seeing us off at the station every year. Dad was a bit more composed, only reminding my brother quite sternly not to cause too much trouble. He's a boy, though. And boys rarely behave. On that note, we were almost late to board. Brother couldn't find his glasses. I swear, that boy.

In any case, we arrived with minutes to spare.

Getting onto that train felt like a dream. I lugged my trunk along and finally found Anna and Hazel in a compartment toward the end. It's good that we're still close friends with Hazel, despite her having been Sorted into Gryffindor our first year. Hopefully, we'd have loads of classes together this term. I'll ask her at breakfast tomorrow. It was, as usual, a wonderful ride. Anthony joined us after a while. I'm glad Hazel found him, he's good for her. I cringe every time I remember the fiasco that came with her dating Brandon Mills in fourth year; we thought she'd swear off relationships permanently! Luckily Anthony came along and changed that. Also, though he's won us over a week into their relationship, he still does things that could only be described as "sucking up to the friends." Like, say, buying us tons of sweets off the train trolley. So really, having Anthony around is absolutely brilliant. Haha

Anyway, we got off the train and headed straight for the carriages, as per usual. I'm the only one in my group of friends able to see the thestrals. I saw my grandmother die a few years ago; I still get sad when I remember that moment in the hospital room. But enough about that.

The feast was--as it is every year--absolutely fantastic! The enchanted ceiling looked just like the gorgeous clear night sky outside, with all the stars dotting the entire thing. And the food. Oh, the food! I will never ever get tired of Hogwarts food. As much as I love my mother's cooking, Hogwarts food is just on a different level altogether. There was roast lamb tonight and I think I finished about half of the platter nearest us. And they had red velvet cake for dessert! As well as this positively heavenly strawberry trifle. I'm still heavy with feast food, actually. It might take me a while to get to sleep.

In any case, now we're back in our cozy tower, snuggled in our cozy beds. I hear Nicole complaining that she can't find her bag of makeup brushes. Ah, Betsy's just found them...on Nicole's bed apparently. Ah, yes. It is definitely good to be home.

I should go, Anna's threatening to jump on my back if I don't join in on the conversation soon. Ta!
